The Century Motors 246 Shaded Pole Motor is a small motor that is suitable for several different low-voltage uses in HVAC systems. It runs at 1500 RPM and consumes 16 watts of power from a 115 VAC source. This motor operates on the shaded pole technique in which a part of the stator winding is connected to develop a revolving magnetic field. This rotating field cuts across the rotor and as a result creates current hence rotates. The 246 motor is a popular motor due to its low noise, ease of construction, and relatively low to manufacture. They are extensively used in small fans, blowers, pumps, and other light-duty applications.
